BIOGRAPHY
Michael Derby is the head of Research, Development, Demonstration and Testing (RDD&T) for the Wind Energy Technologies Office in the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Michael leads the Offshore, Land-based and Distributed Wind RDD&T portfolio at DOE, directing research at the National Laboratories to address critical technological barriers to wind plant performance, reliability, and maintenance.
In this role, Michael provides strategic guidance for the wind program, with a focus on long-term innovation, overseeing the selection of research projects to insure that they have the potential to advance wind plant technology for improved reliability and performance of the national wind energy infrastructure. Michael also guides the development of new and unique testing capabilities necessary to validate and demonstrate key wind energy technologies. Mr. Derby has been with the Department of Energy since 2009.
