Gerard van Bussel

Emeritus Professor - TU Delft

BIOGRAPHY

I started my academic career at TU Delft in Jan 1977 as an assistant researcher, after having completed my MSc thesis the aerodynamics of tipvane wind turbine rotors. At TU Delft I realised the open air test field in 1987(?) and lobbied over 30 years for a dedicated open jet wind tunnel at the TU Delft premises.

This OJF was finally officially opened in Jan 2009 on the same day that I gave my inaugural speech as full professor at the faculty of Aerospace Engineering. I was responsible for the development of the Wind Energy Curricula at TU Delft, as well as for the wind energy track in the Dutch 3TU Sustainable Energy Technology MSc programme.

Over 800 wind engineers and over 40 PhD’s graduated under my supervision. I am a (past) member of several national and international Wind Energy organisations and chief editor of Wind Energy Science.
